Today I’d like to write about how to market music on Audiojungle.net. This post is Part 2 of an article series about “Selling Music on Audiojungle.net” and I hope that you find it helpful. Marketing idea 1:  Social Media Marketing

I know it seems obvious but some people forget about this marketing aspect. Signup on Soundcloud, Facebook, YouTube and other social media sites and build appealing profiles and fanpages to build your fanbase.
On Soundcloud you can join the Audiojungle User Group and share your watermarked songs with other group members and video makers who are looking for outstanding songs.
On YouTube you can upload your videos containing your music and build a great video profile. The same can be done on Vimeo.com. Some people, like Tim McMorris have great success with outstanding videos on YouTube.

Marketing idea 2: Create a WordPress Blog

Create a WordPress Blog and establish a great website with information about your music business. Write posts about your music, how you came to certain ideas, how you produced a song, where, when and so on. Fans and customers will follow. But keep in mind that this is a long term marketing tool and not a sprint tactic.

Marketing idea 3: Building an Email List

Building an email list an sending out newsletters is a marketing tool which almost every company uses to send out special offers, exlusive and useful content, free downloads and products and so on. I think this is also a fantastic way for you and me – for audiojungle authors in general – to keep in touch with fans. Of course you need a website first where you can collect readers for your newsletter.
Useful tools for building a mailing list can be found on Mailchimp.com for example.

Marketing idea 4: Mp3 Flash Player

The easiest way to embed your own Audiojungle songs on your homepage is by using an MP3 Flash Player. A very well coded one which has been programmed for Audiojungle items can be found here:

I embedded the Mp3 Flash Player several times on Music for Videos (Kenaudio.com) and my readers tell me that they find it pretty useful. The great thing about this player is that there is a “Buy-Button” right beside the songs name. If there is a visitor who like the song then he or she is able to direct purchase the item.

Marketing idea 5: Help Others

To help others on Audiojungle.net and on the other Envato marketplaces is a great way to show authors who you are, what you can do, what’s your expertise and last but not least to show others how nice and supporting you are. So, if you are visiting the Audiojungle forums and find a thread where you can add something valuable then do it. Be friendly, honest and a gentlewoman- or man!
Great and valuable contributions to the community will lead others to your profile and they will probably buy your items!

Marketing idea 6: Free Podcast

Have you ever thought about using a free podcast as a promotional tool? Well, you should think about it because it is absolutely free and you can publish your free podcast on several sites like iTunes. Remember: iTunes is the biggest store for digital downloads and this leads to potential customers who listen to your podcast, like it and buying your stuff on Audiojungle.net. For freelance music producers, audio engineers and musicians with recording skills selling music on Audiojungle.net is a great way to earn some extra money or even to make a living from creating stock music, jingles, loops and other audio files.
Since April 2012 I am a member on Audiojungle.net and I’d like to share my experience with you which I made during my first months in this big creative community. Today I’d like to start with Part 1 of an article series about being an author on Audiojungle.net and today’s topic is how to sign up as an audio producer.

How to start on Audiojungle.net

Audiojungle is only one of 9 marketplaces. Beside Audiojungle you can sell and purchase your media on the following Envato marketplaces:

1. Activeden (Flash & Unity 3D)
2. Audiojungle (Stock Music & Audio)
3. Themeforest (Website Templates)
4. Videohive (Motion Graphics)
5. Graphicriver (Graphics, Vectors & Print)
6. 3Docean (3D Models & Materials)
7. Codecanyon (Code, Plugins & Mobile)
8. Tutorials (Tutorials & Screencasts)
9. Photodune (Stock Photography)

If you have other talents beside music production you should definitely think about applying for other marketplaces also.

1. First visit on Audiojungle.net

When you visit Audiojungle.net you see that there are about 70.000 Audio-Files ready to be downloaded, followed by “Weekly Features”, “New Items”, featured authors and so on.

You can browse music by keywords, popular files and the like.

2. Signup as an audio producer

If you are about to sell your own audio files, songs and music on Audiojungle.net you have to signup first. Choose a username and fill out the requested fields.

3. Author’s Quiz

After signup you will be asked to pass the author’s quiz. The questions are easy to answer but I recommend to read the authoring tutorial first so that it is more likely that you pass it as soon as possible. You’ll be asked questions concerning sound quality, legal stuff and the like. After you passed it successfully it will be a lot easier for you to submit audio files which will be approved by the audiojungle team members.

4. Earning Money & Marketing

After the signup and quiz you can start to upload your own audio-files. It will take between 4 to 6 days until they will be approved or disapproves by the staff members. So be patient and keep on producing new songs while waiting for the approval.
When your files are finally online you should think about how to market and promote them to others. I will talk about some ideas how to promote your songs and items in “Part 2” of this article series.

Hi everybody!
A few days ago I received an email from video maker Andre who I got to know in one of those forums about video and movie making. I offered my help for people there who need some advice concerning audio recordings. The great thing about Andre’s question is that he not just introduced a great recording device to me which I haven’t known before, his question also suits this topic about wireless lavalier mics perfectly. So I just thought to combine his questions and my idea to talk about these lav mics in one blog post and I hope it helps you concerning similar ideas.

Andre’s question concerning a Tascam dr-40:

I currently own a Tascam dr-40 and thats it.
What else should I get and how should i set it up. it will be a outdoor deal in mailbu california.  I am doing this as a gift.  I am a cinematographer but audio is not really my forte.

Answer:

Hey Andre, I just had a look at this great device from Tascam and as I could read in the manual of the dr-40 this device has two condenser mics on board already. This allows the user to record in so called AB and XY stereo micing setups. Additionally you can plug two more external mics to the Tascam dr-40 and you can track 4 (!!!) signals simultaniously with this little, small, handsome, handheld, digital audio recording device. That’s awesome!
For mics 3 & 4 – the external mics – I would recommend to think about wireless lavalier mics and here we are continuing with the original blog post concerning these mics.

As mentioned in my answer on Andre’s question I would recommend to think about these so called lavalier mics as the external microphones. Why? Think about the following situations and setups:

• You are recording a wedding scene – He says “Yes!” hopefully she says something similar:-)….
• Your child’s birthday
• etc….

Now….how would you record audio in these sceneries? With something like the Tascam dr-40 and two wireless lavalier mics you can record something like the ambiance from where you are sitting already using the two on board condenser mics and using the lav mics right in front of the bride and bridegroom recording their sweetest words as if you are closer than anybody to them. I think you get it what I mean:-).
Wireless mics, especially these tiny lavalier mics allow you to work very independently. It doesn’t almost matter from where you are recording the sound when you use these wireless almost invisible mics.

In the following passage I’d like to introduce some of the top lavalier mics available on the market today. Please keep in mind that the list is not complete at all. It’s just an idea of what might be available. Please have a look and a listen on as many mics as you can get so that you create a great impression of how these mics sound like.

Wireless microphone systems on today’s market:

If people are looking for adequate microphones for their particular needs, either audio professionals or people from the movie industry, they will – sooner or later – come in contact with the following companies:

1. Sennheiser
2. AKG
3. Audio Technica
4. others

Of course it is not possible to name the best microphone company ever because every single mic has its own characteristics and so it has the company. My experience concerning mics is that it is worth thinking about spending a bit more money on a set of great microphones. Once you found a great setup the recording sound will stay the same forever. If you decide to buy a low price article you might come to the limits sooner as your experience in recording movies and its audio grows.
Coming from the audio recording my very personal experience with Sennheiser, Audio Technica and AKG is fantastic. I own many microphones, especially for drum recordings coming from Sennheiser and they never disappointed me. Of course it took me a long time of testing, comparing different microphones with each other before I found my lovely ones. When you decide to buy your favourite lavalier microphones I recommend to order 2 or 3 from different companies and compare them. Finally you will get an idea of what one microphone can do and what is impossible to record.

Conclusion:

Micing is not easy but it’s fun. I hope that you have got an idea now of what you should look for and which microphone fits your needs. Listen to Children’s Delight here

The idea of Children’s Delight

Sometimes it’s pretty hard to find ideas for new songs or to find an inspiration for a whole new production. This time it was really easy for me from the first ideas until the end of the production of Children’s Delight. The first ideas came while I was outside riding my bicycle through Hamburg. It was a pretty sunny day and I had to wait for the traffic lights to turn green again. And then there was this melody in my head and I noticed myself whistling the melody of “Children’s Delight”. First I thought that this might be too stupid to make a song from but then I just let it go, put away my adult’s glasses and thought from a children’s point of view and that’s it!

The Production of Children’s Delight

During the production of Children’s Delight I noticed that everything which completes the song came really easily and it was a very natural feeling during the whole production. I hope that you also get the idea of how it was to produce it and how much fun it was:-). I felt like a child again…at least for a few hours a day.

Ennio Morricone is a world famous composer for cinematic music. He was born on November 10th in 1928 and during his career he sold more than 100 Million copies of his albums, movies etc. Also he won an Oscar award for his outstanding music.
